You're observing side-effects of a feature that enables acceptance of
common numeric punctuation, e.g., 372-8493 or 229-48-0332 (as well as
8/03/40, 1,234.56 etc.). See Section 4.3 of the SwiftForth Reference
Manual. This has been used in FORTH, Inc. systems since 1973.
