SwiftForth supports prefix characters (see Ref Man. 4.3). However, BASE
offers some extra flexibility, including the ability to set it over a range
of source code (more readable, to some, than all those pesky $'s) and the
ability to set it to an arbitrary value (e.g. 18, which I found useful on
two occasions).
