Jeff's approach appears to be the orthogonal, correct and desired
answer. I'd like some additional information.
This is probably naive, but is there some reason not to just spawn a
copy of 2.04G (or 2.50 if you want looooong file names)? It has a certain
simplicity which appeals to me. I can read the string which I'm about to
send to the command line thus making debugging easy.
I've got to stop thinking this way if I'm ever going to be mainstream!
