Just a quick note to mention that Forth Application Techniques has been
reviewed on slashdot.org. The author is obviously a Forth partisan
(especially if you visit his website and look at his list of supported
languages). He's a bit wistful for the conversational style of Brodie and
is unhappy about the lack of an index, but seems positive otherwise.
Based on the review it seems to me that FAT is more of an introductory
workbook than a guide to writing big thudly programs. Is that a correct
impression? Or is there another book that goes into how to build large
scape Forth apps?
I'd love something that described (in detail, with code) something really
big like the Saudi Arabian airport project or the Saturn plant
environmental system. It seems that as you go over a certain size, the
techniques for managing your code change. It would be neat to see how
scaling problems are solved (new vocabulary wordlists (namespaces), module
loading, networking and so on).
Thanks!
Jos'h
