I don't think that there is a way for us to turn that bar off, as I have
also thought about doing something like that. What I have come up with
insead is to make a copy of the file FRAME.F and name it CONSOLE-CONTROL.F
and then to hack it to get pretty much the behaviour that I want. What I
ended up with is a window that can not be resized, and does not have either
a menu bar or a button bar. There is a menu at the bottom of the screen
that can change when the screen changes, and the menu items are selected
with a keyboard. The selection which is in inverse video is the one that
gets activated when you press return. The title bar says the name of the
application, not SwiftForth. I almost decided to try to sell an app that
uses it but I'm pretty sure that the TTY.DLL which is what both the
SwiftForth console, and the application console uses, is not available for
public distribution. That is to say, you may write an app and distribute it
royalty free if you program your own windows from scratch, or you can have
them buy a copy of SwiftForth so they can use the TTY.DLL. Also note that
the console flickers if you are building the whole screen with each
keystroke.
C:\FORTHINC\SWIFTFORTH\SRC\IDE\WIN32\FRAME.F
BTW, I just got Petzold. It was $2 on half.com
