sio.f comport open?

Using Lib\Options\Win32\Sio.f how can it be determined if a COM port was
opened? If a port was not opened, (COM-EMIT) doesn't return; the code
following it is not executed. I want to make sure its opened before calling
it. I don't see an PUBLIC words that return status.
