Thanks! Hopefully Tom is still subscribed to SFTalk. I can be contacted off-line at: bob.nash1_at_gmail.com

Bob,

The code snippets you asked about were kindly provided me by Tom Dixon (the
gentleman who wrote how to play MP3 in six lines). What he supplied was a
short routine in SwiftForth that sent a single byte to a selected MIDI port.
I was able to incorporate this into a more elaborate program that I had been
using for several years. The M-Audio MIDIsport uses a USB port and Tom's
code handles this just fine for me. Check M-Audio.com to find out about the
unit (~$50). Since this is the result of Tom's effort, I'd prefer that he
provide you with the code or if he wishes, release me to do so.

Carl

I can't help on the Midi capture, but would be interested in seeing some
code snippets on how you talked to Midi and your hardware interface. Is the
M-Audio MIDIsport UNO interface a commonly available item?

I have fiddled with Midicapture.f which can be found using Google and though
I can compile it using SwiftForth, I have yet to figure out what it does. I
had hoped that it would provide a clue as to how to write a simple procedure
to read a single byte from a USB port associated with an M-Audio MIDIsport
UNO interface connected to an electronic organ. I have a SwiftForth program
that sends MIDI bytes to the organ - it works very well but capturing a
received byte has eluded me. Can anyone out there provide any help or
perhaps steer me to any answers (please not C++).

Respectfully,

Carl Helber
