Yes, I agree that Forth is a gas for rapidly getting out things like quick
prototyping, fast interfacing/hardware problems, etc. Plus, I have done at
least one full-scale Windows application for our academic department office
staff (user friendly interface, custom database and web page generator, with
transparent ftp built in, etc.). That was perfectly doable in Forth too. As
usual, I had the central algorithms done in an afternoon. The next 4 months
involved futzing with the interface design. That's probably where C#/.NET
shines, when using the IDE. I can hack out a windowing interface that looks
great in just a matter of minutes. (Well... maybe an afternoon.)
But with something like C#, it's easier to flip in Regular Expressions, XML
work, etc., but with Forth I spend a lot of time hunting down other people's
code to borrow... stuff like that.
Even so, I don't think I'll ever jump ship from Forth. It's just too.....
cool.
And... I don't have to be so Type Compliant. ;-)

I was of course referring indirectly to SwiftX. For those of you who have
not used it, SwiftX IS a SwiftForth application which in turn makes the
applications for the micro in question (in my case the ARM). My post was
mostly in fun, so please forgive me <snip>
