There must be something in the air. I just did the same thing --
installed Wine and tried to run SwiftForth (3.0.12, IIRC -- whatever the
latest is). Believe it or not, I got the same result -- a solid black
session window.
It's not urgent that I get this to work -- the machine (a laptop) is
dual-booted Windows XP and Linux. At one time I thought Forth, Inc. was
planning a native Linux version of SwiftForth, although I can't imagine
why they'd want to do that.
