I've been using UltraEdit on Windows for a few years now, and it works well for me (but I don't do coloring, so can't comment on that aspect).

Komodo Edit is a free, open source editor that runs on Linux, Windows, and OS X. It's been gaining in popularity and is also worth a look. The latest release is 5.0, which just came out (I still have 4.x and it's pretty good).

I recall in both of these cases that there's a bit of fooling around to configure them to recognize our ".f" files as Forth source, not FORTRAN.
