It=E2=80=99s an alias for COMMON.

   : COMMON (COMMON) ; IMMEDIATE
   : :: (COMMON) ; IMMEDIATE

See the comments just above it in the source file (aswoop.f):

COMMON allows access to a word in the underlying system that has been
obscured by a class member.

WH COMMON and WH :: should give enough examples to make its use =
obvious.
