Comp.f Text or Binary

How is comp.f loaded? SwiftX TARGET EDIT +USER loads it but I can insert
jalkdfsdajfsk and get no abort. The header in the file implies that the
source is being loaded, "MODIFICATIONS ... ARE NOT SUPPORTED", as if we can.
Is the source really being included or is it pre-compiled somewhere?
