>I encourage you to restart DFW-FIG. I don't think it would be a
"chapter" of anything. Although it was never formally or legally
disbanded, I believe we can consider FIG to have disintegrated. The
term "deresed" from the movie 'Tron' comes to mind.
The DFW FIG group long ago devolved into a social gathering at the
home of Clif Penn, the founder of the group. Clif suffered a stroke
several years ago, and was basically house-bound, so the group moved
the meeting from the TI campus to meet at his house. In the last few
years, the attendance dwindled to 3 or 4 of us (back in the 80's, it
was not unusual to have 30 or 40 people in attendance). Then when
Clif died, it stopped altogether.
Back in 1990, there was a SIG-Forth in ACM. I was the chairman of the
meeting in Dallas. That group has also dissappeared. There does not
appear to be any cohesive organization to replace it. Which is too
bad. One of the reasons for the resistance to the use of Forth is the
fact that it is basically invisible. I run into folks that have heard
of it (many years ago), but ask if it's still used anywhere.=20
Chicken/egg.

November and telling us about your adventures? If you don't care to
travel, perhaps make a short video.
I'm not sure my 'adventures' are even worth documenting... I would
not mind coming to Sunnyvale (I have relatives in the area that I
haven't seen in several years), but at the moment (and for the
foreseeable future), there is no money for any travel that does not
have an income-producing purpose. I have to be very careful to make
sure that I can cover groceries, utilities, and mortgage payments in
view of the difficulty I have faced in staying gainfully employed for
the last 4 years. I have basically blown through a large portion of
what was going to be my retirement, and rebuilding that is a high
priority now that I have a real (non-Forth) job in the works.

Swift-Forth. You can register here to request it -->
http://www.forth.com/swiftforth/forth-language-trial.html I have the
expectation that you'll be found worthy.
I have already downloaded the demo version of SwiftForth. I see that
there is a time-limited discount for the full version, but since I
doubt that I will have any commercial excuse to use Forth in the near
future, I don't expect to purchase the full version. Win32Forth
appears to do what I would want, and it is freeware. In the very
unlikely event that I have an opportunity to make money using Forth, I
will consider purchasing SwiftForth and SwiftX.
