Not too long ago I wrote some short programs in LISP, which I had just introduced myself to. It has a kind of coolness, like Forth. But gosh it is hard to read LISP!! Forth at least is pretty easy to *make* readable, but it seems like LISP is hard to read even when you try to lay it out nicely and logically. And people still use it??
I have not done any research on this topic but I suspect Charles Moore was influenced by his experience with LISP in his design of the FORTH language just as many of the “new” programming languages being designed for the present development environments are influenced by LISP.
